Univ of Minnesota provides useful tool for managing family conflict over personal property distribution

The University of Minnesota has published a tool that can help families manage conflict over personal property.  The “Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate?” (WGGYPP) workbook shows families how to transfer personal property. Use to plan ahead, or help make decisions when someone dies.

It is filled with hands-on worksheets, practical suggestions, proven strategies, and real-life stories. This workbook will help you and your family to:

  • Recognize the sensitivity of the issues.

  • Determine what you want to do and decide what’s fair to your family.

  • Understand belongings have different meanings to different individuals.

  • Consider distribution options and consequences

  • Agree to manage conflicts if they arise.
