A recent Wall Street Journal article, http://professional.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444450004578002112287693002.html?mg=reno-wsj, notes that there is banter in D.C. about reviving the tax rule that allowed taxpayers over 70 1/2 to make charitable gifts directly from their IRAs. The article notes that taxpayers should continue to gift as they desire but gifts from IRAs should be made directly to charities by IRA administrators so that if the law is revived then charitable minded taxpayers can receive the optimum tax treatment for their gift.
